INTEROPERABILITY

As GRAPHISOFT is part of the buildingSMART International and Implementation Support Group (ISG), we make sure that our development keeps up with the latest technology, so that our users can collaborate with other designers, disciplines or applications more easily. This part of the document focuses on these new features.

Full Support of IFC4

In ARCHICAD 23, we support the IFC4 Reference Model View export in a certified way, as defined and required by buildingSMART. This is the latest quality standard for open-source, IFC-based communication. To this end, the full interface of ARCHICAD supports the newly published entities, properties and geometrical representations of IFC4.

GRAPHISOFT has passed all buildingSMART IFC4 certifications available so far.

Settings/Export/Import of Geo Referencing Map Property Data

From ARCHICAD 23, user can assign geographic property data to ARCHICAD projects.

Enter this data manually at Survey Point settings (Geo Referencing Map page), or via IFC import. These properties can be shared with any project participants via IFC.

Notes:

The Geodetic Datum and Map Projection fields must be filled out (data is required)

Geo Referencing data are exported as Property data only. They do not affect the model’s actual location.

-Export via IFC 2x3: The data is exported as two new IFC Property Sets.

-Export via IFC4: New IFC entities are created: IFC Map Conversion, and IFC Projected CRS.

Element organization into IFC Building Systems

From ARCHICAD 23, it is possible to organize ARCHICAD elements into IFC Building Systems (in IFC Project Manager dialog). A building system is used to group elements according to a common function.

For example: LOADBEARING Building System contains all building elements that transmit forces and stiffen the construction.

Export of MEP element’s ports to IFC

The import of MEP element’s ports (connection position and data) from IFC files was already possible in ARCHICAD. Now the user can export these elements into IFC models.

Export Gross Geometry to IFC

A new export option (in the IFC Translator for Geometry Export) helps ensure more accurate cost calculation with the IFC model.

If you check the “Export gross geometry” box, then host elements containing Doors, Windows and/or Openings are exported without the holes. The openings are exported separately (IfcOpeningElement), and the exact subtraction can be carried out by the receiving cost calculation program.
