Fill Display Mode: True Fill Appearance vs. Bitmap

Each fill type has two faces or display modes: True Fill Appearance and bitmap.

By default, all fills in your project are set to be displayed as True Fill, at View > On-Screen View Options.

If you turn this control off, fills will be displayed on screen in bitmap mode. However, when printing or plotting fills, the True Fill appearance will be used even if the on-screen display is set to bitmap.

The bitmap versions of all predefined fill patterns approximate their True Fill equivalents. If you change a True Fill pattern or generate a new symbol type pattern, you will need to create its bitmap version manually.

Screen-Only Fill Pattern

Use the Availability Panel of the Fills dialog box to view or edit the Fill’s bitmap pattern.

This pattern is used:

to identify the fill in the fill pop-up menus

for on-screen fill display if you disable the “True Fill Appearance” on-screen view option (View > On-Screen View Options).

To edit this screen-only pattern, click with the arrow cursor in the pattern window to turn pixels on or off.
