Modeling Architectural Openings

ARCHICAD 23 supports workflows that combine Opening elements with Door/Window library objects or Curtain Wall elements.

Door/Window Library Parts (GDL objects) can be placed into an Opening on a single Wall. The width and height of the GDL object must match the Opening dimensions. Any Door/Window accessories (cavity closure, sill, boarding etc.) should be defined within the GDL object settings. Please note that the Opening and the GDL object are not linked with each other: if the Door/Window is moved in the wall, a separate interaction is needed to move the Opening.

The benefit of this workflow is that it allows the listing and export of the opening (created in the Wall for the Door/Window, e.g. as Provision for Void) – just like Engineering Openings that do not contain Door/Window objects.

You can also place Curtain Wall elements or Door/Window GDL Objects into an Opening with multiple connected cut Walls.  Insert an Opening into a Wall as its associated element, then connect the Opening to additional Walls.

Then insert the Door/Window object or Curtain Wall element.

Note that Door/Window accessories cannot be used in this workflow (Openings connected to multiple cut Walls).
