Curtain Walls, Stairs or Railings won't save/export to IFC from ARCHICAD 21 7000

Affected versions: ARCHICAD 21 (7000) | Severity: workaround applicable | ID: 254465

Issue

When you try to export a model to IFC from ARCHICAD 21 (7000) using a Translator setting that converts Hierarchical Elements (eg. Stairs, Railings, Curtain Walls) to a single element (in Geometry Conversion Settings), these elements won't be saved into the IFC file. If you use this Translator as the Export Preview Translator as well, these elements will not appear in the IFC Project Manager in 3D View either!

Workaround

There are several known workarounds:

  • You can choose to "Keep hierarchy" for the Geometry conversion instead, and have them exported as such.
  • If you initiate the export from the Floor Plan View, the issue is not present, you can export the elements properly. This way all visible elements can be exported from all stories (eg. by Layer visibility), but you can't Filter the way you do in the 3D window.
  • You can convert these elements manually to a Morph before exporting, reclassify them as their respective Element types, and export them that way. The drawback could be loss of some classifications and sub-element related data.
  • You can roll back to the previous update/build (6013), as the issue is not present in that version. Before doing this, make sure to check the improvements included in Update 7000.

We plan to fix this issue in the next update of ARCHICAD 21 (80xx).
