Team Management on BIMcloud

A Team is a group of Users associated to a particular BIMcloud Project (a container entity hosting project-related files of various formats). A Team can consist of a particular discipline (e.g. “Structural Engineers”), but can just as easily consist of users from different disciplines.

Teams are different from the existing User Groups. Teams organize Users exclusively in the context of a BIMcloud Project. Thus, Teams of the same name can be used with multiple BIMcloud Projects (e.g.: Landscape Architects), and the members of these Teams can be different for each.

In large design projects, with numerous architects and engineers collaborating on several design teams, BIMcloud Project’s Teams panel provides an easily accessible interface to see other contributing Teams and their members.

Team Permissions

To mirror real-life project environments, where different design teams have different liabilities, Teams of BIMcloud Projects can be assigned permissions, just like assigning permissions to an individual User or Group. If no such differentiation of responsibilities is needed among the Teams, the manager can grant identical access to all members of all Teams of a BIMcloud Project by selecting the ‘All Team members’ option.

Teams’ Visibility

In some cases, Teams and their members are considered to be confidential information. Visibility of Team data can be controlled with a new permission called ‘View BIMcloud Project’. Users without this permission cannot see who is working on the project.

Team Folders

In real-life design projects, different design teams have separate directories to store and share their files internally. Similarly, BIMcloud Projects can include dedicated folders for specific Teams, for exclusive data exchange. Each file inside these folders can be modified only by the Team which has permission. As needed, permissions to view or modify these Team folders can be fine-tuned.
